FAQ Thesis Printing #
Frequently Asked Questions about Thesis Printing. For further inquiries, please contact us at abschlussarbeiten@fsei.de .
I need my thesis as quickly as possible, what should I do?
Many students aim to maximize their time working on their thesis, often hoping to have it printed on the deadline day itself. As we provide thesis printing services for approximately 3000 students and complete all printing in our free time, we cannot guarantee last-minute accommodation. As a rule of thumb, thesis printing typically takes 1 to 2 business days; during exam periods, this may extend to 3 to 4 business days. If you find yourself short on time, please send us an email, and we will do our best to assist you. In emergency cases, you may also contact us by phone +49 (0)89 289-22998.
How long does binding a thesis take?
The time required for binding depends heavily on the number of copies, but a general estimation is around 10 minutes per thesis. After binding, the thesis should be allowed to cool for an additional 10 minutes to prevent pages from slipping out during transport. We recommend allowing the bound thesis to rest for 30 minutes before opening it. If possible, wait until the spine has completely cooled.
Can you tell me how much a print of my thesis will cost?
The price for printing copies of your thesis depends on several factors, such as the number of copies, the number of color pages, etc. For this reason, it is difficult to provide a general price estimate. Normally, our prices are less than 50% of what other print shops charge. For a precise estimate, please email us with the total page count, the number of color pages, and whether you prefer single-sided or double-sided printing.
Colour or black/white?
We do, of course, print in color. Any page containing color content is automatically printed in color. Please note that color pages are more expensive than black and white pages, however, we recommend printing images and diagrams in color. The price for a color page is independent of the quantity of ink used. Therefore, we advise against including small color elements on every page (e.g., the TUM logo or colored page numbers) as this would significantly increase the cost per copy. Occasionally, pages may be considered color even if they do not appear to be. In most such cases, this is due to a black-and-white image compressed with JPG, or the use of a color-based gray scheme (rather than pure grayscale).
What paper do you use for thesis prints?
100g/m², multi-coated. This paper is slightly heavier than ordinary copy paper, and its multi-coating provides a premium feel, perfect for making a strong impression.
What cover sheet colours can I choose from?
In addition to the standard cover (transparent foil/black cardboard), we offer white covers and a wide selection of colored cardboard covers. You are welcome to visit our office anytime to view them in person or see on our Print Request Form.
How can I pay?
We accept cash and card payments.
How can I transport the copies?
A laptop bag is excellent for transporting your finished thesis copies. They will remain protected from rain, dog-ears, and wrinkles. Alternatively, we can provide a paper bag.
I am not an Electrical and Computer Engineering student. Can you still print my thesis?
Yes, we can print your thesis. We are more than happy to print for anyone, including external clients.
