Enrollment for the bachelor’s program #

What do I need to be able to do? #

One of the favourite questions of all prospective students, regardless of their chosen subject. For electrical engineering and information technology, this means that you shouldn’t be completely at war with maths and physics, but that’s basically it.

If you are also interested in new technologies, if you are fascinated by the idea of being able to work on new developments while you are still at university, if you have always dreamed that one of your ideas will be part of the technology of tomorrow, then studying electrical engineering and information technology can be the best time of your life.

You might hear this again and again that studying electrical engineering and information technology is a particularly difficult degree programme. Of course, you have to do something for your degree, get to grips with the subject matter and study for exams, but that’s the case with any degree programme. If you’re interested in the subject, then it’s not a problem at all. It only becomes difficult and a problem for those who see their time at university as a time when you spend as little time at university as possible, but all the more time on holiday, skiing and at parties, getting up at half past ten, popping into the lecture theatre at twelve and then meeting all sorts of people in the canteen to spend the afternoon with. Holidays, skiing, parties, afternoons with friends - as long as you keep your studies in the mix, anything goes.

What are the admission restrictions? #

There are no admission restrictions for the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology degree programme at the Technical University of Munich, nor are there any entrance examinations or other aptitude assessment procedures.

Fees #

Semester Fees #

To be eligible to study at TUM, you must pay a semester fee to the Studierendenwerk. This fee is approximately €100 per semester, but may vary depending on your campus. The Student Union, german Studierendenwerk or Stuwerk for short, supports students in their studies by, among other things, operating canteens with subsidized meals, offering a wide range of counseling services, and providing information. Other universities also charge a similar fee—though the amount varies depending on the location.

Studiengebüren für Nicht-EU-Bürger #

Starting in the 2024/25 winter semester, TUM charges tuition fees for new students from Non-EU countries. In this context, “Non-EU countries” refers to the every country apart from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Currently, the fees are €2,000 or €3,000 per semester for bachelor’s programs and €4,000 or €6,000 for master’s programs. The Electrical and Computer Engineering programs fall into the higher-cost category. You can find details on program costs, exemptions, and tuition waivers on the relevant TUM page. Anyone with a German university admission qualification — which can be a high school diploma or a German university degree — does not have to pay anything. So if you complete both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at TUM, you only have to pay for the bachelor’s program.
